Public Health Care is bad but we have public education?

Okay so I was talking with my dad the other day, watching the debates and then I thought of something profound:

Many conseratives have a problem with implementing a national health care system or even something remotely similar. Their argument is that Nationalized Health Care is socialism. Other's also argue, such as the McCain campaign, that Health Care is a responsibility and not a right.

First, I have to disagree that being healthy is the pure responsibility of each individual. Sure, there is some personal responsibility to do everything a person can do to be as healthy as possible. I can talk about this in another blog but here is my point:

I don't have kids but other men and women do. I will not have kids (beleive me, this will not change unless some lesbian knocks me up at a gay bar while I am totally inebreiated)

But seriously, I do not want kids and I will not have them. I am not alone in this either. There are many people, regardlesss of their sexual orientation, that also do not have kids.

What I do have, though, is health care - health care though my employeer.

So could someone - anyone - answer why I, and others, am paying for your kids school, impact fees, higher taxes, etc. if I don't have kids?

Now of course I've participated in the edcation system.. I graduated high school and went so some college. But that argument is mute. My parents contributed to the education system on my behalf and their parents on their behalf. Saying this is "payback" doesn't jive. I paid for my college so that argument is mute, too.

However, why don't I raise a big stink about why I am paying for your kids school - other than what I am ranting about here?

Because it is the right thing to do.
